We understand that importers and distributors must focus on sales and brand building while relying on a competent, cost effective 3rd party logistics provider (3PL) to complete the logistics function. In order to carry out this function effectively, the 3PL must make a sizeable up front outlay in terms of labour, warehouse space and materials.
To recover this outlay and to charge for their services, the 3PL usually offers one of two billing formats, namely:
- as a percentage of sales
- by the unit (the pallets stored, lines picked, orders dispatched etc)
By the unit is not usually cost effective for the importer. It precludes accurate forward costing and can often hide excessive profit making by the 3PL. However a percentage of sales allows the customer to see at a glance their logistics costs and enables precise long term forecasting.
Our function is to give importers and distributors peace of mind by ensuring they get best value for money from their logistics operations, while paying a competitive and fair price for the work done.
Wright Kerr Tyson’s team experience in costing and operating the logistics function is second to none. We first complete an audit and evaluate every conceivable aspect of the required operation before setting up and running the distribution centre function. This includes:
- the scope of the service
- number of sku’s, value, stock levels and turnaround
- rotation and batch coding, order size range, packing specs
- I.T./ stock control/reporting, labour, space, materials, equipment usage
- distribution criteria
In fact every facet of the operation needed to build an accurate picture before physical handling activities commence.
Once this picture is complete, we will be ready to provide you with an efficient, cost effective logistics function. Wright Kerr Tyson is here for you.
